This remarkable ancient oak tree is completely hollow, surrounded by a much younger beech woodland in this Special Site of Scientific Interest – Savernake Forest. By surviving, it provides a valuable habitat for a great variety of flora, fauna, and fungi. Such ancient trees are of vital importance for the conservation and preservation of the fullest diversity of woodland species, and deserve due reverence.
