About Humphry Repton

(National Trust)

IGPOTY have teamed up with the National Trust and National Trust Sheringham Park, to celebrate the work of Humphry Repton, in a new special award.

Repton was an acclaimed 18th century landscape designer and was seen as the successor to Capability Brown. He was involved in approximately 400 commissions nationwide including at least eight other National Trust sites in addition to Sheringham Park including: Antony (Cornwall), Ashridge (Hertfordshire), Attingham (Shropshire), Hatchlands (Surrey), Plas Newydd (Anglesey, Wales), Tatton Park (Cheshire), Uppark (West Sussex) and Wimpole (Cambridgeshire).

He was famous for producing his designs in Moroccan red leather books, you can see a video about the Sheringham Park red book here.

He described Sheringham as his favourite design and it is considered to be the best remaining example of his work.

Judges will be looking for new and exciting representations of Repton’s landscapes and green spaces.
