About Pets in the Garden

This competition invites photographers/pet owners to capture 'Pets in the Garden', this could be your own pet or that of a family member or friend (of course with permission). IGPOTY launched this relatively new Photo Project to bring a new take on pet/animal photography and whilst happy/fun shots are welcomed, we do not invite the dressing up of pets/animals.

Please note, Photo Projects only accept 'Single Entries' not portfolios, which are separate and should be entered into the stand-alone IGPOTY competition category titled 'Portfolios'.

For the avoidance of doubt - IGPOTY does not accept any images of taxidermied animals, nor that have been photographed using live bait, no captured animals, nor use of animal models. No indoor shots allowed.

Insights

Aim for well-composed moments in the garden, park or woodland/green space, whether pet portraits or landscape scenes.

We are looking for the same calibre of capture as seen in our 'Wildlife in the Garden' category, i.e. - your photography should focus on the animal/s not the owner/s.

However, please note this is a Photo Project with its own prize and timetable, and entries are not eligible for the overall IGPOTY prize.

Wider benefits

The Photo Projects offer an opportunity to focus on specific skills and animal photography is a significant skill to master. Photographing animal subjects can be difficult and now is your chance to hone those skills.

IGPOTY runs juried competitions based on skill.

Only singular entries from 'Single Entry' main pay-to-enter categories can win the overall IGPOTY prize. Entries from 'Photo Projects' (stand-alone competitions) cannot win the overall IGPOTY prize, neither can portfolios, which will be judged as part of the IGPOTY 'Portfolios' competition category which is stand-alone.
