IGPOTY is delighted to partner with Dundee Heritage Trust (DHT) to run a Special Award competition for the first time! This free-to-enter Special Award is open to everyone (adults only), and the competition is dedicated to images captured within Dundee City, Scotland.

This competition presents an opportunity for visitors to explore and showcase Dundee’s heritage, garden and natural landscape. We’re inviting visitors to capture natural scenes, plants and gardens from around Dundee that incorporate the city’s glorious heritage. The competition gives visitors the chance to illustrate what heritage in the city inspires them, and how it interacts with gardens, plants or nature.

Prizes

Selected winners will form part of an exclusive exhibition at the IGPOTY exhibition at the DHT Verdant Works site in 2024. There will also be special prizes on offer as listed below.

First prize:

• Your photograph goes on display at the IGPOTY Dundee Heritage Trust (DHT) exhibition (at Verdant Works) in 2024 and a signed individual certificate.

Special prizes awarded by DHT:

• £50 DHT voucher,
• 2 x invites to exhibition preview event (at Verdant Works),
• 1x Annual pass for Verdant Works.

Second prize:

• Your photograph goes on display at the IGPOTY Dundee Heritage Trust (DHT) exhibition (at Verdant Works) in 2024 and a signed individual certificate.

Special prizes awarded by DHT:

• £25 DHT voucher,
• 2 x invites to exhibition preview event (at Verdant Works),
• 1x Annual pass for Verdant Works.

Third prize:

• Your photograph goes on display at the IGPOTY Dundee Heritage Trust (DHT) exhibition (at Verdant Works) in 2024 and a signed individual certificate.

Special prizes awarded by DHT:

• 2 x invites to exhibition preview event (at Verdant Works),
• 1x Annual pass for Verdant Works.

General rules:

• You may not submit watermarked images with your name or website visible on the photo. Please do not frame your images with borders.
• Entrants may submit a maximum of 4 images per single entry token and a maximum of 6 images per portfolio entry token.
• For free-to-enter competitions you should enter 1 image per token given, up to a maximum of 8 images (8 tokens).
• Entrants' images must be .jpg or .jpeg format and of high enough quality.
• We recommend all images are output to 1920px on their longest side at 72 ppi (ideally with an sRGB colour profile). Any larger than this and you are supplying images bigger than they will be seen or used by IGPOTY judges; your files will take longer to upload and/or download to judges and viewers’ screens.
• The absolute maximum for each image must not be more than 7MB in file size and no more than 3000px on their longest side.
• All entrants must be able to supply a high-res image (300 ppi) suitable for printing/exhibiting should the image be shortlisted. You may be asked for this when the time comes.

N.B.

• High-res source file/s need to be at least 3780 pixels (longest side) @ 300 ppi, ideally larger (and ideally with an Adobe RGB (1998) colour profile).

Category rules:

IGPOTY runs juried competitions based on skill, judging will be done jointly by IGPOTY and a Dundee Heritage Trust (DHT) representative. Free-to-enter Special Award entries are not eligible for the Overall IGPOTY prize and cannot win more than one award using the same image(s). Only photography captured in the City of Dundee (in Scotland, United Kingdom) is permitted. (Admission/membership fees to venues may apply). Adults aged 18 years and older may enter only. Dundee Heritage Trust Staff are excluded from entry, however volunteers may enter. Please obtain relevant permissions before entering photos. Prizes must be collected in person at Dundee Heritage Trust's Verdant Works site, no cash alternatives. Via separate consent, Dundee Heritage Trust will contact winners to arrange any prizes, as necessary.
