I have visited this area of the world a number of times in winter, looking for suitable wildlife shots and of course to photograph the Northern Lights. The aurora borealis is such an incredible natural phenomenon and the boreal forest in the depth of winter is often covered in fluffy, powdery snow which provides a beautiful foreground to the amazing night-time displays.

When I set up my equipment to take this picture the temperature was dipping below –34°C. I continued to photograph the aurora for another seven hours.
