It took us seven hours to reach Longs Peak (4,346 m) – the highest peak in the northern section of The Rocky Mountains. Although our steps became progressively difficult, we spotted numerous Aquilegia caerulea (Rocky Mountain columbines) growing happily on the steep slopes – the sight of these flowers giving great comfort to the weary traveller.
