Newhaven Tide Mills is one of those wild, unmanaged places that are highly valued for recreation by local people but unfortunately less so by the local council; some of the land shown in this photograph has been allocated for development.

For a couple of weeks in May each year the whole area is covered in the snow-white pompoms of wild sea kale (Crambe maritima)
in full flower. These are at their most resplendent in the evening sunlight.
