I photographed this hoverfly on the anther of a lily flower on a summer’s morning by the Palm House. Kew opens early for members during the summer and I took advantage of a beautiful, cloudless July morning to visit. Despite the harsh sunlight (which can often make colours look washed out), there was a shaded area on the north side of the Palm House where the colours of the lilies were radiant and were complemented by the hoverflies.
