About Shane Barker
Born in the 50s and living the first 30 years on a London council estate, I grew up interested in everything. I was fortunate to have access to both urban and green environments that have shaped my perspective ever since. At 21 I bought my first serious motorcycle, a Moto Guzzi California, and over several years toured Europe taking photographs with my beloved Olympus OM-10, a camera I still have to this day. My love of nature led me to start university at the age of 27, to study ecology, where I discovered a deeper understanding of the natural world and many new subjects to photograph. After years of working in education I retired and launched headlong into my main passions, namely astronomy and photography. Rather than continuing to work with film, I decided to discard my back catalogue and wholly embrace the new digital world of art and the opportunities it presented. Unshackled by the past, using Nikon DSLRs, I am now able to create innovative digital art work that I believe can and will stir people's emotions.
