About Sarah Morton

I work mainly as a landscape photographer, but supplement my income doing portraiture, weddings and commissions.  I use Nikon digital cameras, D850, D300S, and D7100.  I also work in traditional techniques like cyanotype and salt paper  and have enjoyed experimenting with camera less images using old photographic paper and my scanner!  My botanical work is centred around our garden which is about 3 acres of wood and meadow on the west coast of Scotland. We have a river (or burn) running through the garden which rises about 6 feet when it is in spate.  I have a courtyard garden round my studio which allows me to grow my roses and other more fragile plants.  It's here that I like to do my close up work especially with the roses.  Planting in the main garden is mixed and even after 12 years we're still experimenting.  We have hens, geese and ducks, two Bedlington Terriers and a cat.

I live on the Kintyre peninsula and the landscape and seascapes around me are my inspiration. The unique weather and atmospherics that we get living on a peninsula with the sea on three sides means I am never stuck for subject matter or challenges.I studied Art History at the University of St Andrews and the Art of Black and White Photography at Glasgow School of Art. I have been selected for exhibition with the Royal Photographic Society, the Chania International Photography Festival, the Blank Wall Gallery in Athens and am a Juried Affiliate Artist with the prestigious Circle-Arts Foundation in France. I have won four awards for my photography from the annual Monochrome Awards, and in 2022 won a Gold Award from the inaugural New York Photography Awards. I am also a member of ArtMap Argyll and the RPS. My work has been exhibited in Britain and Europe and is in private collections from the USA to Australia. My photographs have been published in ArtMag, Spotlight and Contemporary Artist magazines and I was one of the first artists to feature in the new European art magazine Art IDEAL. My work was also selected by Saatchi Art to feature in their Annual Catalogue in 2020.
