About Leilani De Leon Granados

Leilani De León Granados (Mexico City, Mexico, 2000), is currently studying photography at the Active School of Photography (Escuela Activa de Fotografía, E. A. F.) in her home town. She's mainly interest in alternative processes, such as anthotypes, chlorophyll prints, cyanotypes, lumen prints, film soups, the sabattier effect and double exposures.Although she's still learning and discovering, her work has include nature since the beginning, placing this theme as the key element in her discourse. For her, photographing is like writing haikus: one must go out and walk with wide open eyes, feel what is surrounding us, see the details, hear the silence and the unspoken words of nature.

Leilani's initial approach to photography was at the age of 8, when her mother acquired the first camera for her family: a small pink digital Kodak, with which, initially as a game, she began to photograph the plants in her grandmother's garden. However, it was not until January 2019, when she developed her first black and white film, that she fell deeply in love with this world. She has attended workshops and diploma courses with photographers such as Saúl Serrano, Rebeca Allende, Sergio Moreno, Óscar Domingo, Juan Manuel Galvis and the Colombian collective Red Collage. Nowadays she's studying at the Active School of Photography (Escuela Activa de Fotografía, E. A. F.), where she received the opportunity to show her work for the first time at the Student's Collective Exhibition  (December, 2019).
