Mainly I am a painter. I point and shoot my camera (or phone) instinctively at scenes that I think might become reference material for my paintings. It takes tonnes of pictures to find the ones that inspire me to paint and also fit my painting skills, so I take a lot of pictures. 

No photography training whatsoever, but a painter's eye for composition, light and colours.
