The Heart of the Woods by Steve Lowry
For over 150 years polarised light microscopy has been used in the examination of the structure of wood. For my portfolio, I have used polarised light and wave retarding filters to produce images of a range of tree species, chosen for their aesthetic appeal. These species included: Larix, Pinus sylvestris, Sassafras, Ulmus minor, Pseudotsuga taxifolia and Cedrus libani.
