Description
A Natural Reserve was established at Mono Lake to preserve the spectacular tufa towers - limestone spires formed underwater by minerals in the lake and then exposed when water levels drop.
The shoreline reserve protects this sensitive wetland habitat, which is a feeding source for 1-2 million birds each year. Around 4 million people in Los Angeles also depend on Mono Lake’s watershed for drinking water, green lawns, agriculture and industry.
