I live in the Western Cape in South Africa – I live rurally amongst the wild fynbos plants of this region and they are my daily photographic inspiration. While on an extended family visit in Sydney, Australia, I was missing my flower fixation so I photographed whatever I could find from local gardens, florist shops and markets. My sister-in- law loves orchids and this 'poor man's orchid' was growing in her tiny garden. In order to create my images – I need to pick the flower as I work at night in complete darkness. I knew my sister-in-law would never forgive me if I picked the whole of her lone flowering orchid, so I only took one of the tiny little flowers from the flowering head, hence the single individual flower image.
