Epiphytic red algae (Ceramium sp.) tufts growing on tips of thongweed (Himanthalia elongata) fronds in the cold waters of the Cairns of Coll, Scotland. Seaweed is vital as a nursery habitat for fish and other species and is recognised as having a vital role in carbon capture, but is under threat from pollution and habitat destruction.
