This photograph is part of my ongoing investigation into the relationship between photography and painting through the genre of still life. I am particularly interested in the play between what is real and what is a pictorial invention.

My inspiration comes chiefly from the unique forms, gestures and colours created by these flowers, in this case – poppies, in various stages of decay. The studio setup allows the subjects a freedom of movement, which is almost theatrical as captured by the lens. This image is comprised of 2 photos merged together.
