Red Cage
The World of FungiImage details - Red Cage
Description
I saw this fungus for the first time last autumn in a forest, with a lot of dead boxwood. I was fascinated by its unique architecture. To me, it looked like a lantern, but in France they call it ‘heart of a witch’. The botanical name is Clathrus ruber, and in English it's more commonly referred to as the latticed stinkhorn, the basket stinkhorn, or the red cage.
