This photograph is one of a series of images taken in winter of the greenhouse in my parents' garden. This particular day there was a frost pattern all over the window and a lovely early morning winter sun. The geranium had been left in the greenhouse from the summer, and the petals were pressed up against the window, with the warm sunlight enhancing their vibrant colour.

I was drawn to the image of the geranium and cactus, well past their prime but still adding beauty to the otherwise cold scene. The frost on the window and the dirt on the glass softened and diffused the whole image, giving an almost impressionist, painterly feel to the picture.
