I was intrigued by the rarity and beauty of the white sand dunes, and by the challenges they pose to flora and fauna. At sunset it was quiet and there was a glow from the dunes as they reflected the changing light and colour.

The shot was taken at 8.15pm local time — the light had almost completely gone and the park was closing. This single plant had come to the end of the day standing tall and in good condition, its seeds having been distributed by the 90mph hot winds of the season. A triumphant achievement, I thought.
