Description
For 2 months each year, Lake Alford Recreational Park in Gympie becomes a large rookery for ibis, egrets and cormorants. A lot of the townsfolk walk the 800m path each morning as it circles the duck pond, as they watch the hundreds of birds nesting on a central island and fighting over scarce nesting material. The nesting season coincides with the flowering of the jacarandas, for which the country town is famous.
