Description
The white water lily, Nymphaea ampla , grows from thick rhizomes along the shores of tropical lakes in Guatemala, Belize, and southern Mexico. Its white flowers rise above the plant’s floating leaves, which occasionally curl or roll up. Nymphaea ampla has psychoactive properties and it is a very common subject in pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican art.
