Red poppies are a familiar and much loved sight and I look forward to seeing them appear in early summer but I never fail to get really excited when I come across the Himalayan blue poppy, sadly only in a garden environment in the part of the world where I live. I can only dream of the joy of finding them growing wild in their natural habitat. They have a reputation of being difficult to grow in southeast England but fortunately a garden near to my home have had much success. Mecanopsis can come in several colours but I loved the intense steely blue petals of this variety, flushed with pink.
