About The Beauty of Barrington Court

In Association with the National Trust

This free-to-enter special award 'Beauty of Barrington Court' is open to everyone (adults only) and is the first IGPOTY run photo competition to be dedicated to images captured at National Trust Barrington Court; a beautifully restored estate and gardens, an atmospheric fragment of old Somerset.

Insights

The intention of Colonel Lyle in 1917 was to create a working model mediaeval manor estate, with orchards, avenues and the wider landscape reflecting this vision for a rural estate within the Somerset countryside. Partially derelict farmyards were transformed into luxuriant flower gardens with the help of Gertrude Jekyll’s planting plans and Elsie ‘Ronnie’ Lyle’s passion for planting.

We would love to see photos that capture the Lyle’s passion for exemplary craftsmanship and detailed design, whether in the gardens, architecture of the buildings or wider landscape. We also welcome photos of the wildlife that makes Barrington Court it’s home. However, please aim to keep a recognisable connection to Barrington Court in all of your entries (i.e. - we are not looking for macro flower photography).
