About Nicole Rulff
I have been practicing photography for more than half my life; inspired by artists like Freeman Patterson and my father. I lean towards minimalism in my photography, and focus my artwork around seeing and composing in-camera rather than post-processing. My main subject matter is nature. I strive to convey the beauty, wonder, and connections within the natural world as well as between the natural world and the man-made through compositions of colour, value, and texture.I use a Nikon D7500 with a choice of three lenses - 50 mm, 18-55 mm, and 70-300 mm.
During my undergraduate degree I worked as a photographer for the university-led Vogue Charity fashion show, as well as an event and student-life photographer for the university yearbook. During this time, I exhibited in a few locations around the city, and won some small competitions in flora and fauna photography.Currently, I practice photography in a semi-professional manner, exhibiting through local clubs and participating in local events. Mostly, I photograph because I love seeing and connecting with the world around me and with my place in it. I often spend hours in a single location listening, sketching, and photographing the complex and often overlooked layers of life.
