About Matthew Scott

About MeI have always had an interest in photography, but this really started to become more serious in my early teens when I purchased my first SLR back in the early 80's, an Olympus OM10 which stood me in good stead for many years until I moved on to Canon and Sony digital equipment. Initially I took photographs of almost everything, but my primary interests were in natural history, architecture and landscape, areas fuelled by television programs presented by characters such as David Attenborough, David Bellamy and Doug Allan. More recently my photography has focused purely on landscape, perhaps because I am also a practicing Landscape Architect and have an inherent interest in the British landscape and its history so eloquently described by authors such as W.G. Hoskins - The Making of the English Landscape, Oliver Rackham - A History of the British Countryside and more recently Robert Macfarlane - The Old Ways. Alongside these presenters and authors are a plethora of artists whose work I find particularly inspiring; Eric Ravilious, John Piper, Mark Rothko, Paul Nash and Jean Baptiste Camille Corot. My photographs tend to have a bias toward landscape details; the obscure, the abstract, patterns, hues, tones and shapes. I am particularly interested in images that require the viewer to spend perhaps a little longer than usual looking and are not immediately obvious. I also like to photograph or crop to 1:1 format because the square geometry is an effective foil to the abstract.......My StuffCanon EOS 5DSony RX100Canon EF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USMCanon EF 16-35mm F2.8L II USMManfrotto Tripod / Ball HeadLee Filters
