About Birgitta Zoutman
I am a photographer based in Shrewsbury, currently exploring still life and working with natural light, symbolism, and autobiographical themes. My practice is rooted in the Dutch still life tradition but filtered through a deeply personal lens, using seasonal flowers, everyday objects, and family keepsakes to create images that invite reflection. Living with autism, ADHD, and chronic pain, I have developed a slower, more mindful way of working that honours both my capacity and my lived experience. I work mainly with a Nikon D750 and a range of prime and macro lenses, shooting in natural light to capture painterly depth and atmosphere.
Birgitta Zoutman, MA, is a still life photographer whose work explores memory, resilience, and beauty through autobiographical practice. Living with autism, ADHD, and chronic pain, her practice has evolved into a slower, more reflective way of making art — one that prioritises presence, care, and adaptation. After more than a decade as a wedding and portrait photographer, she completed her Master’s in Photography at Wrexham School of Art in 2025. Her major project Everyday Altars: Still Life as Visual Refuge and Autobiographical Practice was exhibited in the MA Degree Show and from September 2025 will be shown across Shrewsbury as part of the Shrewsbury Arts Trail. Her work combines historical reference with personal storytelling, creating visual altars that invite pause, stillness, and reflection.
