About Alexandra Mantovanelli-Krantz

When I was thirteen I started to use writing and making video and photographing as a means of self-expression, to better understand my reality, and to express my interpretation of the world around me. Since all my life, I am a visual thinker so for me is more easier to express me with images. I use photography as a means to document the world around me.I make pictures that call attention to things that other people overlook. I seek the unknown the stories that are not at first obvious, the uncommon in the common. Currently, my main topics are “medicine” and “cultural identities”. I portray people with rare diseases, or from different cultures, showing in 360 degrees what it means living with an illness or in a specific cultural environment, and expressing the psychological and spiritual side of the subjects.     I am a poetry writer as well, for me a picture is a poem without words.

I have a BA in Fine Arts and a master in Photography and Digital Film. I developed my passion to write and take picture from an early age. Since September 2010, I have been an all-round filmmaker and photographer as profession and since 2000 I am involved in competitions as a creative writer (fiction, poetry, hybrid, short fictions, essays, screenplays)where I got awards prizes as well as results of my works . I shoot and edit every kind of video, from music videoclips, companies’ videos and promos, virals as well as documentaries and short movie. For some projects I also direct and develop the concepts. As a photographer, I work at every kind of festivals, exhibitions, manifestations, events and for fashion shootings. I also write and make my own projects and they are often in the social field because I love to speak about cultural minorities and peculiar topics. Since two years I often take a part of Photography, Docu and Film competitions.
