Additional Information

This stunning hardback volume showcases the winners and best entries for the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition 9 and accompanies a major exhibition at Kew Gardens in February 2016. The exhibition then tours to Sweden, The Netherlands, Portugal and venues across the UK. The International Garden Photographer of the Year is a unique competition that is open to professional and amateur photographers showcasing inspirational images encompassing landscape, nature and wildlife, still life and even portrait photography as it relates to plants and gardening. There are eight subject categories for the competition – The Beauty of Plants, Beautiful Gardens, Trees, Woods and Forests, Breathing Spaces, Greening the City, The Bountiful Earth, Wildlife in the Garden and Wildflower Landscapes plus a category for under 16s in the Young Garden Photographer of the Year – with additional special awards and portfolio categories. The book features all of the winning pictures in the exhibition as well as the best of the rest in a beautifully printed edition. So what makes a great garden photograph? A combination of being in the right place at the right time, good composition, correct exposure, spectacular colour, a lucky moment when we catch that illusive shaft of light. It’s hard to explain but we know when we see it, whether it’s in the viewfinder or on the page, it really feels like magic. As you turn the following pages I hope each picture sparks as much delight for you as it has for me whilst judging, and by the time you reach the end you’ll be itching to get out outdoors with your camera again – like I am!
