Spirits of the Fig Tree by Denise Bernon
As autumn approaches, the colour of the leaves of the fig tree deepen and their edges curl, creating graceful, organic shapes. Through my lens (and in their mirrored reflections), I saw characters emerge of ancient people; some Buddha like. It feels fitting, as Buddha is said to have found enlightenment beneath a fig tree; which is native to Asia Minor, and is one of the world's oldest cultivated fruits, dating back to ancient times. These leaves carry with them that ancient lineage, embodying a timeless connection between nature and humanity.
