My love of photographing ferns and leaves led me to create this series. I chose to layer images and stamps from Photoshop brushes I made – to give the images depth and interest.
I photographed all of the plant elements on a lightbox. In post-processing, I combined multiple images on different layers using various blend modes and opacities. Other images were made into brushes that I stamped onto a layer, and I again used various blend modes and opacities. Working with a dark background was a departure for me, and I loved the drama it provided.
This portfolio includes images of ginkgo leaves collected on the sidewalks during the fall, eucalyptus I purchased from the local grocery store, plus ferns and heavenly bamboo, carefully gathered from my backyard. They are named as follows; I: Ginkgos, II: Eucalyptus, III: Fern Frond, IV: Heavenly Bamboo, V: Eucalyptus Buds, VI: Maidenhair Fern.
