Rose Garden Illuminated by Claudia Gaupp

The common theme of my portfolio celebrates light as a unifying element amongst the exuberant beauty of Jay Robin’s Rose Garden at Borde Hill, during the summer months. This garden room was designed by RHS Gold Medal winner Robin Williams, in 1996.

In the centre of the garden you are greeted with an impressive copper statue of Aphrodite, sculpted by artist Brendon Murless, holding a bouquet of roses with water spouting from it. What all the images have in common is the use of classic backlighting of morning and evening light. To do justice to the theme of the all-round view of the Rose Garden and the different angles, the images therefore guide one through the space of architectural forms, shapes and colour allowing you to experience all the beauty of this garden.

Depending on the flowering period in early summer, either the magnificent David Austin English roses or the lush edge plantings of catmint and lavender are the focus of the composition, and glow with colour in the sunlight.
