About

Winning images from the internationally acclaimed International Garden Photographer of the Year Competition (IGPOTY) will be taking centre stage at the world-class heritage gardens of Hestercombe this September. This year’s exhibition is set to take root in the old tennis courts near the orchards of the Grade 1 landscape and gardens, originally designed by artist Coplestone Warre Bampfylde in the 1750s. The exhibition will be displayed on the IGPOTY outdoor structure consisting of 12 panels. This will enable an exhibition of around 40 winning images from the competition’s 12th year; which will offer a rich and varied display for visitors. Hestercombe will be the only place during this period in Somerset that visitors will be able to see the exhibition. Included in the exhibition is the highly original Abstract Views category, pushing the genre and expanding perceptions of nature. It also produced the overall winning image by Jill Welham entitled ‘Fireworks’, which will be on display at Hestercombe. A varied selection of other award-winning images will be on display including some from The Beauty of Plants, Beautiful Gardens, Wildlife in the Garden and Trees, Woods & Forests categories.... IGPOTY returns once again to Germany to one of its beautiful castles - Schloss Dyck for an exhibition of select photographs from competition 12. The imposing moated castle Dyck is regarded as one of the most important cultural monuments on the Lower Rhine and has seen 1,000 years of history. Built on four islands in the 17th century, the castle complex lies at the heart of the spacious park. This park was created at the will of Prince Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck by the Scottish landscape gardener Thomas Blaikie in the style of the English landscape garden in the 19th century. As Centre for Garden Art and Landscape Design, Schloss Dyck today has much to offer to families and visitors interested in culture as well as garden lovers and experts. They include a plethora of formal & informal garden rooms, formal lawns, stunning water features and an extensive arboretum. At the heart of the gardens is a Victorian Mansion, featuring a grand Great Hall with a magnificent stained-glass window overlooking the front lawn. The present house was built by a wealthy coal merchant, John Cory, in 1893. John’s son, Reginald, was a great horticultural enthusiast who commissioned the gardens at Dyffryn, collaborating with the renowned garden designer, Thomas Mawson. Following the First World War, the Dyffryn estate fell into disrepair. Since a National Trust takeover in 2013, however, a project has been underway to restore this estate to its former glory....
