Tucked between the glacial rockscapes of the Island of Harris are hold-your-breath surprises. Dark luscious pools hold in their palms delicate plants and offer them to the light and the rain in the most beautiful way. I found these reeds on a tempestuous late autumn afternoon just as the light was failing. I fell in love with their delicacy and with the pattern of rain on their leaves and on the water. Although I have returned to the site several times since, the pool has never offered them up to me again.
