Description
Schanzenviertel is a run-down part of Hamburg. Lots of grey and dirty facades – and then, you look up and become aware of this tiny bursting green spot: the smallest vegetable garden ever. On his little French balcony, Gunther is growing an amazing amount of vegetables: tomatoes, radish, kale, beans and lots of herbs. He takes his job very seriously, trying to provide himself with as much freshly grown food as possible. I loved the contrast between the straight lines of the dirty yellow house and the organic forms and lively green colours of the balcony plants. For the perfect position, I had to get on the roof of the opposite houses. Fortunately, one of the residents allowed me to climb through a roof window to take the shot.
