The lotus flower has great significance in Chinese culture as a symbol of virtues such as elegance and beauty. Space and greenery are at a premium in the centre of this fast-developing city. This prime location is clearly cherished, with the shapes carefully chosen to fit it with and highlight their surrounds. I waited almost a week for a day of little smog.
