In the garden, I was looking for spiderwebs to experiment photographing with, to create a more graphic image. An aphid had flown into this web, and tried (in vain) to escape from the sticky threads, covered with droplets of adhesive. The aphid was still alive and I experienced for the first time how it must feel to be stuck in a spider’s web. To capture this emotion, I made a close-up shot using a macro lens. The light from my flash created beautiful colours in the wings, and made the ‘wires’ stand out white against the black background, making the aphid look like a tightrope walker.
