I photographed this wild, cute European hamster (Cricetus cricetus) as it foraged for food in its habitat – a large cemetery in Austria. This particular individual enjoyed collecting flowers, such as clover or daisies. For a very brief moment the wild hamster held the clover in its hands and glanced into my camera – just long enough for me to take this photo. This species appears on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Critically Endangered, and was last assessed in 2019.
