Description

The Betula aetnensis (Etna birch), is one of the most fascinating botanical wonders of the Etna National Park, being an endemic species, which grows only on the slopes of Mount Etna, an active stratovolcano. This tree is a symbol of adaptation and resistance, capable of thriving in a hostile environment, between volcanic soils and extreme climatic conditions. The silvery white bark of the birch creates an extraordinary contrast with the surrounding black lava rocks, giving the landscape a touch of magic. The flexible branches, and leaves that turn golden hues in autumn add further beauty to this tree.
