Description
This shot of a young oak sapling was taken on Lindow common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest made up of lowland heath with a perimeter of scrub and woodland.
In the past local people would graze their livestock on here, but over the last century this has declined, and much of the common has become covered by trees.
Current work on Lindow Common involves the removal of selected trees so that heather (Calluna vulgaris) can return the area to heathland.
